Jerry Henry was born February 5, 1956 in Seneca, Kansas. He graduated from Maur Hill High School in Atchison, KS in 1974 and from Benedictine College with a degree in Business Administration in 1981.
Since 1978 Jerry has served as the Executive Director of Achievement Services for Northeast Kansas, a nonprofit that provides programs and services for developmentally disabled citizens.
In 1981 Jerry married his wife Linda (Becker) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Purcell, Kansas. Together they have three children Sarah, Hank and Ted, and six grandchildren Thomas, Fulton, Cate, Kolbe, Jack and Ella.
Jerry’s life of public service began when he was elected to the Atchison City Commission in 1986. He was later selected to serve as the Mayor of the City of Atchison in 1989. In 1992, Jerry was first elected to the Kansas House of Representatives, where he has served for 12 terms.
Currently, Jerry serves as the Ranking Minority Member of the House Appropriations Committee. He also serves on the House Education Budget Committee, House Agriculture and Natural Resources Budget Committees, Joint Committee on Pensions Investments and Benefits, and Joint Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice Oversight.
Jerry has been a member of the Atchison Knights of Columbus #723 for 42 years and has served as a Grand Knight for the Council. Additionally, he is a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Council. He and his family are members of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Atchison.
